Last week, retail giants Walmart and Target both reported digital sales growth that was very well-tracked by Consumer Edge data.

TGT called out lower digital volume, while WMT noted robust digital sales growth driven by its ability to leverage its store footprint to fulfill and deliver digital orders.

Consumer Edge credit and debit card data reflected these dynamics, as the WMT: Online segment showed y/y growth in both the number of transactions and average ticket price, while TGT: Online experienced a deceleration in transaction growth throughout the quarter. (Note: RedCard sales are not included in TGT panel spend)

Consumer Edge saw a 98% correlation with Walmart online reported sales.
